PlexTortion
Wampler's Plextortion is a distortion pedal that transports you straight back to the golden age of hard rock. Inspired by the iconic JCM800 amplifier with its coveted Celestion Greenback speakers, this pedal captures the signature "brown" sound that defined the genre-defining tones of AC/DC, Van Halen, Dokken, and Ratt. Where the Plextortion shines is in its tight, preamp-like distortion that maintains clarity and punch, unlike the looser, power-tube-esque tones of Wampler's Pinnacle distortion. This makes the Plextortion better suited for aggressive, high-gain riffs and solos that need to cut through the mix without getting muddy. The Super Plextortion variant takes this concept even further, offering three distinct gain structures. The standard Plextortion's mid-focused "Greenback" sound is joined by a more transparent, modern-leaning tone that evokes the Celestion Vintage 30. This expanded palette allows players to seamlessly transition from vintage-inspired crunch to contemporary high-gain mayhem. What sets the Plextortion apart is Wampler's commitment to authenticity. Founder Brian Wampler is known for extensively testing his pedals through a variety of affordable, everyday gear to ensure the tones translate accurately, rather than just sounding good through a boutique rig. This attention to real-world performance makes the Plextortion a versatile workhorse that can help guitarists nail those iconic 80s rock tones in any gigging or recording situation.
