Rainbow Machine
The EarthQuaker Devices Rainbow Machine is a polyphonic pitch-shifting modulator, or "Polyphonic Pitch Mesmerizer," designed for sonic experimenters rather than purists, with "no natural sounds" coming from the box. It uses a unique, slightly imperfect digital signal processing (DSP) engine to create a spectrum of synthetic, otherworldly effects. The pedal offers polyphonic harmonies ranging from a perfect fourth below the input up to a major third above, which can be manipulated via the Pitch control or an expression pedal. Its most defining feature is the footswitchable "Magic" control. This is a regeneration mechanism that feeds signals back onto themselves, resulting in intense modulation, chorusing, resonant pitch-shifting delays, metallic flanging, ascending and descending "pixie trails," controllable self-oscillation, and synthetic noise. With a Secondary control that adds an octave harmony and the ability to function as a slapback delay or chorus, the Rainbow Machine is an unpredictable tool for crafting mind-bending soundscapes. It features modern amenities like Flexi-Switching for momentary or latching operation.
